Meggyums' outfit of the day- Travel Classy

Shirt: Ann Talor Loft
Belt:Lands' End Canvas
Jeans:American Eagle
Leather Jacket: Florence, Italy.
Shoes: Sperry top sider

This outfit is really simple and elegant. This is a really nice outfit to travel in and the shoes and belt add enough pattern for it not to be boring. If it were me, I would add some jewelry, but Meggyums does not believe in accessorizing.

tshirts and cardigans

I got a new cardigan from Lands' end last week Monday and sadly I have to return it. Sure, shiny is good, but this was just too shiny. And it was too heavy for where i live anyway, so bye bye cardi!

If any of you feel that you need to treat me to a cute tee I have provided two choices from which you could chose:
  1. Life is good. Spreading the good message of optimism with a cute whale. Super soft too!

  2. J. Crew. Doesn't this ultra cute tee remind you of your favourite fashionista?

Daisy Chains!

Here's another cute little DIY bracelet that almost anyone can get the hang of if the really try.

Ingrediends (what you need):
Seed beads in two different colours (same size)
Bugle beads (1cm long)
Beading thread
A beading needle
a clasp
Two (plus extra) callottes
Pair of pliers

1. Put on a callotte on one end. To do this, if it's a bottom hinged callotte, thread the thread through the hole at the bottom and tie a knot big enough so that the knot can't slip through and then close the outer bit over the knot. If it's side hinged, tie a big knot that the callotte can fit over and close the callotte.

2.Thread on 4 to 6 bugle beads, depending on how big you want the space in between each flower to be.

3. Add 6 seed beads on to the thread next.

4. Now, thread your needle through the first seed bead to form a loop, making sure you pass the thread through the same way as the first time.

5. Take a seed bead in another colour and thread it on.

6. Thread through the 4th seed bead, being sure the thread goes the same way it did the first time. You have just completed your first flower!  Continue steps 2-6 until you have your desired length.

7. Add another callotte and your clasp to finish.

Now you have a beautiful daisy chain necklace or bracelet to wear where ever you go!
I have a purple blue and yellow necklace which reaches to about 1/4 way down my belly. I love that length and it goes with so many things! These are nice for spring and add some interest to a button up or plain tank. Email me pictures of yours at mims.megs@hotmail.com

Tell me, did you try it?

Book review: A year without autumn

Hey! As much as fashion is good, Education is important too. That's why I have decided to do a sort of book review on some (possibly all) the books on my list "awesome books", which you can find on the right hand side of my blog.

Today's review is: A Year without Autumn; By Liz Kessler.

This is Liz's most recent book. I've read and adored every children's novel she's written, so going into this book, I had high expectations.
Jenni Green lives an organised life where nothing ever changes. So when she goes to her family condo with her best friend, Autumn, like she does every year, she doesn't think anything of it. Autumn has crazy-fun artist parents who travel the world and wear designer clothes. She always has a wild plan to drag Jenni into. When Jenni uses an old elevator the manager was trying to fix to go up to Autumn's condo, she gets transported a year into the future. She finds that her life and the lives of the people around her are a total disaster that she hates being in. Now with sneaky questions, and help from old Mrs. Smith, she must find out what happened to her life and why her best friend Autumn isn't talking to her.
Towards the end, I thought I was going to get an ordinary expected ending, but she did it again and blew me away!
This book sends a well needed message of friendship, destiny love and the power of determination and curiousity.

Garden district

I was researching something for Home Economics and ran across this beauty, located in the Garden District, New Orleans. You should really visit there sometime. It is just outside the french quarter with the tram running through up to Canal street. Really pretty and kind of European in a way with lots of great little restaurants, diners and bakeries. Really, really nice. Comment if you want pictures of me in New Orleans from last summer!

how to pack light

Remember my last blog? Here's what you've been waiting for!
First, chose your favourite colours OR your favourite top/bottom (preferably patterned).
Now build from there!
So it's a muti-coloured polka dot pair of shorts. You are going to the Caribbean. Find a plain top in the same colour as some of the dots in the shorts. Now grab a neutral top with something special, rushing, ruffles, a little applique or something subtle but interesting. For the last top, If you are feeling brave, maybe a small striped tee in something neutral like navy and white  or black and white. You be the judge. You could just try a shadow stripe.
For the second bottom, chose a simple plain pair of khaki shorts or a denim skirt.
Replace the pair of gloves with a set of bangles or some lightweight rope/twine bracelets. Substitute the hats for a cute bandeau or patterned head band and a cute flower clip. A pair of ballet flats/Sperry's for traveling, a pair of flip flops and some dressy-ish sandals (like my favourite navy flowered sandals)  and instead of scarves, pack a couple long necklaces. See how easy it is?
Check back on the 10th for another DIY bracelet that's super light and refreshing for spring!

A pink and green trip

Ever wanted to be totally fashionable on a trip but had little room for clothes. Well lets just say you were going on a trip to some where like New York in say, late winter to early spring. You want to look cute, fashionable and not like you wore the same thing for the ten days of your trip. You were given a back pack and some loose rules to follow. Three tops, two skirts, a couple pairs of tights, some socks, a few scarves hats and gloves and two pairs of light comfortable shoes, what are you going to do?!?! It's not as hard as it sounds!

simple pleasures

Sometimes it's good to just look at nature and smile. So go outside with your laptop or what ever it is you are reading this on and enjoy the tranquil breeze and the peaceful chirp of the birds. Play with fido and just run around. Now take a look at this picture of the moon if you can't make it outside.
